Today, state borders are no longer seen as impenetrable barriers. For communities in border regions, their neighbours are an integral part of daily life, both physically and socioeconomically. This is evident in tourism, where families and organised groups frequently travel across borders for sightseeing, festivals, and holidays. In the Romania-Serbia and Romania-Hungary border regions, there is also significant economic interest, with businesses looking to invest, expand, or recruit workers from across the border.

However, two major obstacles hinder this cross-border integration: a lack of language skills and the absence of clear legal guidance on working or establishing businesses in a neighbouring country.
